Cytiva Whatman Polycap SPF Capsule Filters

Polycap SPF is an excellent choice for serum pre-filtration. Its unique filter media system has three layers: fine GMF (Glass Microfiber), ultrafine GMF, and a layer of 1.0µm Polyethersulfone (PES) membrane. This structure provides a means of serial filtration, especially useful in filtering serum or other hard to filter complex solutions. Tissue culture media is often serum based, with the serum usually being filtered and added to the media. Virology, Microbiology and Tissue Culture Laboratories in medical schools, hospitals, private testing laboratories and colleges/universities are the primary areas of application for Polycap SPF. Other applications requiring filtered and/or sterilized serum include immunoassay methods and diagnostic standards/controls†. Filtration with Polycap SPF, followed by a Polycap AS, provides the most efficient approach. Serum is not easy to filter. It contains a high degree of loading of complex particulates, including lipids, triglycerides and lipoproteins, that quickly clog small pore size filters. Proper prefiltration with Polycap SPF is essential to prevent this early clogging and extend the useful life of the final filter. Serum filtered through Polycap SPF has improved flow rates and higher throughput when subsequently filtered through a final sterilizing grade membrane filter.
