Sulfuric Acid, Babcock, Reagent is an extremely corrosive acid that comes as a yellowish slightly viscous liquid. It is soluble in water and is a diprotic acid. It has very strong corrosive, dehydrating and oxidizing properties as well as being hygroscopic. It is used in the Babcock test in determining dairy butterfat in milk processing. The Reagent grade denotes that this chemical is the highest quality commercially available and that the American Chemical Society has not officially set any specifications for this material.
