Dimethyl Sulfoxide, OmniSolv(R) is an organosulfur compound that is a colorless liquid also known as DMSO. Acting as an important polar aprotic solvent that dissolves both polar and on polar compounds and it is miscibility with a wide range of organic solvents including water. One of Its main features is that it is able to penetrate human skin. In biology it is used in PCR as an inhibitor of secondary structures in DNA templates and DNA primers. It can also be used as a cryoprotectant, reducing ice formation in cell media and thus preventing necrosis of the cell during the freezing process.
