Urea, Crystal, Reagent, ACS is an odorless and colorless solid that is an important nitrogen-containing substance found in mammal urine. In concentrations up to 10 M, urea is a powerful protein denaturant as it disrupts the noncovalent bonds in the proteins. This property can be exploited to increase the solubility of some proteins. As an ACS grade quality reagent, its chemical specifications are the de facto standards for chemicals used in many high-purity applications and typically designate the highest quality chemical available for laboratory use.
