This aliphatic, also known as (RS)-3-Chloro-1,2-propanediol, presents as a colorless oil. It is soluble in chloroform, methanol and water. Store under inert gas and in a tightly closed container in a dry and well-ventilated place. Containers which are opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. This substance is hygroscopic and stable under recommended storage conditions. (+/-)-3-Chloro-1,2-propanediol is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents and contact with moisture should be avoided. This chemical is fatal if swallowed, harmful in contact with skin, toxic if inhaled, suspected of causing cancer, may damage fertility or the unborn child. It also causes serious eye damage.
