This halogenated arene, also known as 1,2,4,5-tetrachlorbenzol, presents as a very pale yellow to yellow red crystalline powder with a strong and unpleasant smell. It is known to be soluble in ether, benzene and toluene, slightly soluble in ethanol, and insoluble in water. Store in a cool, dark and well-ventilated place. 1,2,4,5-Tetrachlorobenzene is incompatible with oxidizing agents and strong bases. This chemical is harmful if swallowed and causes both skin irritation and serious eye irritation. Suspected of damaging fertility or the unborn child, this substance can also cause harm to breast-fed children and is very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects. It may cause drowsiness or dizziness and/or damage to the liver and blood through prolonged or repeated exposure. It also is known to cause damage to the thyroid gland and kidney.
