This mercaptan analog, also known as 1,2-dimercaptoethane, presents as a colorless to very pale-yellow liquid. It is known to be very soluble in alcohols, soluble in ether and acetone, and insoluble in water. Store in a cool, dark and well-ventilated place, under inert gas and at ambient temperatures - this substance is air sensitive. 1,2-Ethanedithiol is incompatible with oxidizing agents, bases, reducing agents and alkali metals and should not be stored or handled near them. This chemical is flammable in liquid and vapor form and harmful if swallowed, in contact with skin or inhaled.
