Also known as Propionic Acid Sodium Salt, this is the salt form of propionic acid, which is an organic acid. It can be found naturally in the human body but in chemical form is harmful in contact with skin and is irritating to eyes and respiratory system. Easily subject to deliquescence in wet air, it is soluble in water and slightly soluble in alcohol. Presenting as a white crystalline powder, it is hygroscopic and incompatible with strong oxidizing agents.
