Sodium Selenate
Print
Also known as Disodium Selenite or Selenicacid Disodium salt, this powder is a strong dibasic acid. It takes the form of colorless rhombic crystals that are hygroscopic and stable under alkaline and oxidizing conditions. Care should be taken as it can cause damage to liver and kidneys, resembling arsenic in its effects. Sodium Selenate remains stable under alkaline and oxidizing conditions and can be stored at room temperature. The chemical is soluble in hot water but only partially soluble in cold water and when introduced to flame, may produce irritating or poisonous gas. Sodium Selenate emits toxic selenium and sodium oxide fumes when heated to decomposition, so avoid decomposing heat. This substance is toxic by inhalation and very toxic if swallowed.
