Also known as Monosodium Phosphate or Sodium Dihydrogen Phosphate Monohydrate, this hygroscopic reagent has a high buffering capacity and presents as white to off-white orthorhombic crystals or granules. Sodium Phosphate Monobasic Monohydrate is soluble in water and insoluble in alcohol, ether and chloroform. At 100°C it will lose its water of crystallization. While it is stable, it is also incompatible with heavy metals and strong acids. Serious eye damage/eye irritation along with skin corrosion/irritation can occur on contact and it reacts violently with strong acids and base. It should be stored at room temperature and stock solutions are stable for several months under the same storage requirements.
