Picric Acid, Crystal, Reagent is the chemical compound formally known as trinitrophenol (TNP). Presented as a yellow crystalline solid, it is one of the most acidic phenols. As a highly nitrated compound, picric acid is highly explosive (like TNT). Apart from it's use as an explosive, it also has some uses in organic chemistry for the preparation of crystalline salts of organic bases. It is also used in clinical chemistry for the Jaffe reaction. Its reagent grade means this is the highest quality commercially available for this chemical and that the American Chemical Society has not officially set any specifications for this material.
