Primarily used as a diluent because of its low cost and toxicity, it is also used in laboratory settings for column chromatography and extractions. Prone to hydrolysis and transesterification, it is rarely used as a solvent. As an ACS grade Reagent, Spectrum Chemical manufactured Ethyl Acetate is used as the quality standard against which other substances are graded and has met the toughest regulatory standards for quality and pureness.
