Description Back to Top
Agarose, High Gel Temperature, Electrophoresis Grade is a polysaccharide polymer material that is obtained from seaweed. It is made up of repeating units of agarobiose and is a linear polymer. It is typically a white powder that dissolves in water and jellifies when cool. It can be liquified easily by heating the gel up. The melting temperature varies depending on what type of of agarose it is. It is most often used in molecular biology to separate large molecules, such as DNA, by an electrophoresis process. It is also used as a matrix when working with proteins and nucleic acids.
