Suppository Base Excipients

Suppository Base Excipients

Suppository base excipients are used in the manufacture of suppositories (for rectal administration) and pessaries (for vaginal administration). They can be hydrophobic or hydrophilic. Suppositories should melt at just below body temperature (37 C), which allows for erosion of the dosage form and release of the API. Hard fat suppository bases melt at approximately body temperature. Hydrophilic suppository bases also melt at body temperature, and typically also dissolve or disperse in aqueous media. This allows release to take place via a combination of erosion and dissolution.

Spectrum specializes in providing the top suppository bases but if you do not see the product, grade or form of the suppository base you require, just contact our excipient chemical specialist. Get your products to market Safer, Sooner - Trust Your Ingredients!
