Emulsifying Cosmetic Surfactants

Emulsifying Cosmetic Surfactants

Emulsifying cosmetic surfactants differ from true surfactants because they tend to interact with the hydrophobic material which acts to give the hydrophobic material (oil) a type of coating that “hides” the oil from the water. This “protective” coating makes the surface properties of the oil more similar to that of water which results in the emulsion binding the oil and water-based ingredients into a cream or lotion permanently.
